Standards: Managing Imports After the New School Year Starts

The following is completed under GB Manager > Standards > Library/Tools:

  • Manage Import > Import Standards should only be done at the beginning of the year before teachers are inputting assessments. Once school is open it is recommended that minor edits are done using the other Library Tools.
  • Manage Import > Export Standards can be used at any time to review what is linked to a course. Since the Standards Tree is built from the top down there can be unexpected consequences if a Master Strand from another grade level is inadvertently linked through import to the wrong class all the indicators associated with the Master Strand show up in Teacher Gradebook. If the wrong indicators are linked to a course, go to Standards > Library/Tools > Courses, type in the course number, and click the Magnifying Glass icon to search. The Available Master Strands in your entire library show up on top and the Selected Master Strands for the searched course appear below.

In this example the school's top level is Master Strands if your school's top level is Strands then that is the level you will see.

  • If there is a Select Level that should not be linked to the course, click the delete button.  This will unlink the level from the course, but it will still be available in your library.
  • If you need to link a level to the course, find it in the list and select it.
The filters can be used to filter the list to help you find it.
  • If a description, code, or tag needs to be edited, it can be done by going to Standards > Library/Tools > select the level (Master Strands, Strands, Standards, Indicators) that needs edits. All the library items for that level will appear. You can use Search or filters to narrow the list to find what you are looking for.

  • Click the edit icon to update the Description, Code, Tag, or Weight. The default value of Weight is 1 occasionally a school may choose to change this to 0 to track a standard that should not be included in calculations. Changing the weight will affect the grade.

  • Clicking on the number of Linked Strands will allow you to deselect but this is not recommended once assessments have been entered.
  • The indicator level has the option to edit what marking periods the indicators should be available to the teachers.

If it is known in advance that none of your teachers should assess a standard in a specific marking period, then those can be deselected. It is best to make these decisions at the beginning of the year before assessments are entered.

If your teachers are reporting that they do not see indicators in their gradebook and you have determined they are linked it may be because they are hidden for the marking period and just need to be checked here to unhide them.
