Selecting the "Public" option in your PlusPortals School Resources enables you to share links and files with current parents and students. This setting also ensures that these files appear on your RediSite. By marking items as public in PlusPortals, you can post a resource once and have it potentially displayed in up to four locations. These locations may include:
- On the user's Home Page within your PlusPortal
- On your PlusPortal Login page
These resources will only appear if you have chosen to Use PlusPortals Home Page instead of Login Page. For more information about this, please see Customize the PlusPortals Home Page.
- On your school's RediSite website (if your RediSite layout/design includes it)
- In an email (optional)
To use this feature, your school must be both a RediSite and a PlusPortals customer. All school websites are customized, so the inclusion and placement of Portal Resources will vary based on your website design. If your PlusPortals school resources are not visible on your website and you would like them to be, please contact us at support@rediker.com. This feature is included.
Mark a Resource as Public
Please see School Resources for more information.
- In PlusPortals, login with the plusportaladmin or another created admin usernames and go to Communication > School Resources.
- Under Links and Files select either the Links or Files tab.
- Create or select an item, ensure to fill in the appropriate information (title, description, attachments, or links, etc).
- Optionally you can choose to setup and use named resource Folders
- Be sure to check the Visible To option of "Show on Login Page (Public)"
The resource must have the public visibility option selected, in order for the resource to also be displayed on your RediSite. This is not instantaneous, the Portal to RediSite feed will automatically refresh every hour.
Displaying Resources
There are several ways to display your PlusPortals Resources on your public RediSite, as there are many widgets that could be used.
When designing and setting up your RediSite, Rediker will automatically configure your PlusPortals School Resources feed to display on your website. We use widgets like the R Nav widget or a List widget, both of which can display a list of links/files. If your need help or want us to set this feature up for you, email us at support@rediker.com
- Add a Widget that is capable of displaying text as a link like the R Nav or List Widgets.
- Access the Widget Options by either using the gear icon in the Widget Editor pop-up, or by right clicking the widget
- Choose Connected/Connect Data. If the widget is already connected it will say "Connected Data" at which point you could change/edit that connection or remove it. If the widget is a new connection it will say "Connect Data," and then you are prompted to choose the collection.
- Choose the Collection to Connect the Widget to (by default we named the collection PlusPortals Resources (Links & Files) (Note: if this collection is not available to connect to, please check that you have at least 1 public resource in your PlusPortals. If you still need help please contact support).
- Then map the fields and click Done. The RediSite widgets are capable of filtering your resources by Type (links/files) as well as Folder Name. You can also Click on Filter & Sort tab in the Connect Data options to set Sorting or Filtering up. Below is an example of Resources displaying on a RediSite:
It is highly recommended to first organize all file assets like PDFs on a sharing platform like Google Drive or MS OneDrive. Once uploaded, use shared links for documents or folders, in PlusPortals School Resources or directly on the website, this will make maintaining such resources far easier.
If you have recently added a public resource to your portal, and do not wish to wait for the resource to be displayed on your RediSite, you can manually refresh the data. However, it will automatically show up on the RediSite in about an hour. To refresh the Resource data manually on your RediSite, go to Collections, click the 3 Dots to the right of the PlusPortals Resources collection, and choose Refresh Data. It is advised that you limit the number of "public" resources you choose to share as too many can make for a cluttered/long list of items. Resources do not have a start or end date, so these would be resources you wanted posted and visible all year like a School Handbook, for example. If the item is to be temporary, like a monthly lunch menu, then an announcement would be recommended instead.
