Disciplinary Incidents

Depending on the permissions set by your PlusPortals administrator, you can submit and/or view disciplinary incidents for students in your classes or any student in your school.

Submit a Disciplinary Incident

If permitted by your PlusPortals administrator, you can submit disciplinary incidents for students. You may be limited to submitting incidents for only students in your class, or you may be permitted to submit incidents for any student in your school.
Submitted incidents are sent to your school's administrative office for approval. Once approved, an incident is saved to the student's permanent record where it can be viewed by parents and students in their portals.
 To submit a disciplinary incident, follow these steps:

Important: You will only see the discipline options described in this task if your PlusPortals administrator has enabled them.

  1. On the Home tab, for the class the student is in, click> Go to Discipline.

Note: If you're submitting an incident for a student who is not in your class, you can open any Class page.

If you're on the Class Page, click the Discipline tab.
 

  1. To submit an incident for a student in your class, select the student's name in the Select a Student drop-down list.
    or
     
    To submit a disciplinary incident for a student who is not in your class, click All Students in School, select the student's grade in the Select Grade Level drop-down list, and then select the student in the Select a Student drop-down list.
  2. Scroll down to the Incident Submittal panel and click Add.
  3. See the diagram and table below for a description of the New Incident Form.

A

Type the date the incident took place, or click and select the date. The default is the current date.

B

The Follow-up date is used by your school's administrative office to communicate with parents concerning the incident. The default is the current date. Leave this date as-is unless your school administrator indicates otherwise.

Add an infraction. The infraction appears in the Infraction panel.

Important: If you're adding multiple infractions to the incident, add the most serious infraction first.

If your school administrator has assigned actions to the infractions, an action automatically appears in the Action panel. Actions are assigned to infractions based on your school's discipline policies.

Warning: Although you can add and delete actions, and change the date actions are to occur, consult with your school administrator before making any changes.

Add other teachers involved in the incident.

F

Add the location the incident occurred.

Add comments related to the incident.

Important: Use caution when adding comments. When the incident is reviewed and approved by your school administrator, your comments will be posted to the parent and student portals.

If the student has completed the assigned action, you can indicate when and how the action was completed.

Note: Typically, this information is entered by a school administrator, but you do have the ability to indicate actions served if needed.

Print the incident.

Save the incident to complete later.

Submit the incident.

Note: The incident does not appear in the parent and student portals until it is approved by your school administrators.

Return to the Discipline tab.

Important: If you click Done without saving the incident, the information you've entered is lost.

 


View Discipline for a Student in Your Class

On the Students tab, you can view a student's discipline record and any pending incidents involving that student. You can also submit incidents.

Important: You will only see the student and discipline options described in this task if your PlusPortals administrator has enabled them.

  1. On the Home tab, for the class the student is in, click> Go to Students.

    If you're on the Class Page, click the Students tab.
     
  2. Click the student you want to view.

Tip: Click     to navigate between pages of students.

Tip: You can filter items in a column by clicking , or change the order of items in a column by clicking the column heading.

Note: The incident appears in parent and student portals after it is approved by your school administrator.

View Discipline for Students in a Class, a Grade, or the School

If permitted by your PlusPortals administrator, you can view and submit disciplinary incidents for your students or any student in your school.

Important: You will only see the discipline options described in this task if your PlusPortals administrator has enabled them.

  1. On the Home tab, for the class the student is in, click> Go to Discipline.

    If you're on the Class Page, click the Discipline tab.
     

Tip: You can also view incidents for a student in your class. (See View Discipline for a Student in Your Class.)

View incidents for a specific student in your class

Select the student's name in the Select a Student drop-down list.


View incidents for all students in your class

Next to Select a Student, click All Students.


View incidents for a student not in any of your classes

  1. Click All Students in School.
  2. In the Select Grade Level drop-down list, select the student's grade level.
  3. In the Select a Student drop-down list, select the student.

View incidents for all students in a specific grade level

  1. Click All Students in School.
  2. In the Select Grade Level drop-down list, select the grade level.
  3. Click All Students.
  4. If necessary, limit the number of incidents shown in the History panel by typing a date range in Show Incidents From and To, or by clicking and selecting the dates.

Important: The PlusPortals administrator sets the earliest possible date for viewing incidents.
